Composition & Care

Warm machine wash. Cool tumble dry. Cool iron only. Do not bleach. Do not dry clean. Avoid using harsh detergents or fabric softeners.

Note: If you have a snagged loop, please do not pull it. Simply cut off the loop with sharp scissors to avoid any further pulling—this will not affect the product’s performance.

    The Gown I Didn't Know I Needed

    I own too many things I don't use. The Hommey gown is not one of them.

    It lives on the hook behind my bathroom door. Every morning I reach for it before I've fully woken up. That's not a small thing. Most robes start out promising and end up bunched at the bottom of the wardrobe by August. This one has stayed on the hook for months, which is the only review that matters.

    The weight is right. Not the aggressive heaviness of a robe that came free with a spa package, and not the sad thinness of something that came in a gift set. It sits somewhere considered in between, warm enough to mean it, light enough to move in. In winter it's the first thing on. In summer it's what I reach for on a slow morning with a coffee and nowhere to be. It works because it doesn't try too hard in either direction.

    The cotton softens as you wash it. That's worth saying plainly because it's the opposite of what usually happens. Most things degrade. This gets better.

    There's no excess to it. No fussing with the design. You put it on and it does what a good gown should do, disappears into your morning so you can get on with living in it.

    I'm suspicious of things described as elevated basics. But occasionally something earns it. This is one of those things.
